Creating a mob of unidentified animals
Quickly create a mob of sheep on the go and have the option to add tags at a later date
Note: We highly recommend using this feature to create a mob of sheep only as this process simply achieves a number of animals against a group. You cannot record weights or medicines to this group, and numbers do not count toward your overall stock tally on farm until you convert them to identifiable animals.
This article shows you how to add a non-identifiable (untagged) list of animals to a group via the mobile; convert animals into identifiable (tagged) animals within this group, and the web version of this too. As an example, this is a useful feature if you want to keep a tally of lambs born that you will be tagging at a later date.
Create a mob of unidentifiable animals in the mobile app:
- Head to 'My Sheep' > 'Groups'.
- Select 'Mob of Animals'.
- Enter details > 'Save'.

- Your group will now be available under the 'Groups' tab.

Convert non-identifiable animals to identifiable animals (add ID tags to animals):
-
Click into the mob of animals. Use the '-' or '+' to adjust the number of tags you have for this mob, then select 'Add Eartags to these animals'. If the animals are already tagged and in the system, simply select 'Add animals' at the bottom of the page to add them to this group.
- Enter the breed, check the number of tags to create is correct, then enter 'First ID' > 'Generate ID List'.
-
This will generate a list of ear tag numbers in sequential order. Tap 'Next: Select sex'.

- Use the tickboxes to select all of one sex.
- Tap on the appropriate icon against each animal to change sex. Select the 'Castrate males' box to castrate selected males. The light green colour indicates castrated males. Click 'Save and finish'.
- These animals are now identifiable on your account.

Note: If these were cattle and you wanted to create an on-movement to send to BCMS/ScotEID, you need to select these animals > 'Manage' > 'Move to location' > 'Holding Pen' and then approve on your Regulatory Dashboard.
