Issues connecting your Breedr app to your scanning or weighing equipment?
Troubleshooting issues you may have connecting equipment to your device to complete your weighing or scanning session in Breedr
This article contains some common issues with connecting your Breedr app to your scanning or weighing equipment, and how to go about troubleshooting them:
- I can't find my hardware device in the Bluetooth settings on my phone/tablet?
- I'm connected up on my phone/tablet settings, but my hardware is not showing up on my Breedr app?
- It is the first time I am pairing my EID reader. How do I do this?
- EIDs and/or weights are not coming through onto the Breedr app from my:
- Do I need to reconnect every time?
I can't find my hardware device in the Bluetooth settings on my phone/tablet?

Make sure your hardware is switched on and is within range of your device.

Switch the Bluetooth on your phone/tablet device off and on again.

Switch the hardware pairing device off and on again.

Turn off all other Bluetooth devices that are nearby.

Ensure you're running a device that supports Breedr - Android 7.0 (+ newer) or iOS 15.6 (+ newer).

Check that your EID reader or weigh head is on the most up-to-date software. Update if not.

Check your mobile settings > 'Apps' > 'Breedr' > 'Location' set to 'Allow' or 'Allow while using'.
I'm connected up on my phone/tablet settings, but my hardware is not showing up on my Breedr app?

Make sure your app is on the most recent version. Click here to see how.

Click 'Refresh' to see if that pulls up the hardware device/s.

Hard close the app and reopen. Head back to the Bluetooth icon to see if the hardware is now displaying.

Check that your EID reader or weigh head is on the most up-to-date software. Update if not.
It is the first time I am pairing my EID reader. How do I do this?
In the settings of your EID Reader:

You may be asked to enter a pairing code: "0000" (four zeros), upon pairing your device to the hardware.

Check the settings on your EID reader to record EIDs without gaps (this is the 'Decimal 2' setting and reads in numbers).

Settings > Tag Reading > Tag Format > Options > Decimal 2

Check advance settings in Bluetooth are set to the following:

Settings > Bluetooth > Advance > Connect Mode > Default > Output > Default

EIDs and/or weights are not coming through onto the Breedr app from my:

On your stick reader, make sure your Bluetooth setting is set to Manual Mode:

Settings > Bluetooth > Bluetooth > Manual

Check the stick reader's advanced settings in Bluetooth are set to Default:

Settings > Bluetooth > Advance > Connect Mode > Default > Output > Default

If your stick reader is new, you may want to check the settings of your EID reader to record EIDs without gaps by setting it to the 'Decimal 2' format:

Settings > Tag Reading > Tag Format > Options > Decimal 2

Tru-Test EziWeigh 7/7i weigh head

You only need to pair this weigh head and the Android device for the first time. Once this pairing has been made going forward, the weigh head will connect directly through the Breedr app.

You may be asked to enter a pairing code: "0000" (four zeros), upon pairing your device to the hardware.

The EziWeigh 7 is not compatible with Apple devices. Find out more about compatibility here.
Tru-Test JR5000/XR5000/ID5000 weigh head

Your weigh head device must be on the latest firmware.
- The easiest way to update your device is via the Data Link mobile app. It connects to the device via Bluetooth and handles the update wirelessly, no computer or USB cable needed.
- Download the Tru-Test Data Link app from the App Store (iPhone/iPad) or Google Play (Android) if you have not already.
- Power on the device you want to update. Open the Data Link app and connect to your device from the device list. Once connected, select the device name in the app.
- Click 'Check for updates' or navigate to 'Tools' > 'Updates' > 'Check for updates'. If an update is available, the app will display the new version number and prompt you to download and install.
- Click 'Update' and keep the app open and the device powered on until the update completes. Do not close the app or let your phone screen lock during the update. The device restarts automatically when the update is complete.
- The easiest way to update your device is via the Data Link mobile app. It connects to the device via Bluetooth and handles the update wirelessly, no computer or USB cable needed.

- You can also update your device using Data Link PC (Windows only).
- Go to livestock.tru-test.com and navigate to 'Products' > 'Software and Apps' > 'Data Link PC Software' to install the software onto your PC.
- Power on the device, connect it to your PC using the USB cable provided with the device, and open the Data Link PC software. The device name appears in the bottom left corner of the screen once connected.
- In Data Link, click 'Tools' in the top menu bar > 'Updates' > 'Check for updates'. If a firmware update is available for your device, follow the on-screen prompts to download and install it. Keep the device connected and powered on until the update completes.
- You can also update your device using Data Link PC (Windows only).

Do I need to reconnect every time?
