BCMS and ScotEID Movements

It's easy to register movements, births and deaths for your herd and send to BCMS or ScotEID using Breedr.

Please see our short video for an introduction on how movements work within Breedr:

Connecting your Breedr account to BCMS or ScotEID and "Opting in" for Movements with Breedr, means you can send movements to your regulatory system directly from your Breedr account, for complete compliance without the hassle of paperwork.

Movement activities in the mobile app will generate regulatory movements ready for you to approve & send to BCMS or ScotEID in the web portal - this is a 2 step process.

  1. Create the movement activity on mobile or web

  2. Go to the regulatory page on web and approve and send

Movement activities include:

  • On movements: create animal/birth, scan passport, move between holdings

  • Off movements: mark off farm, moving between holdings

  • Deaths: log death, mark as dead

  • Births: create animal/birth, scan passport

By connecting your Breedr account to your regulatory system you can also:

  • Generate a Herd Movement Book report that is compliant with FABBL, Red Tractor, DEFRA, QMS and Trading Standards inspections

  • Use your phone camera to scan in passports to move animals ON farm

  • Works offline: log births in the shed in offline mode (if needed) and then come back to your computer to approve and send the registrations to your regulatory system.

How does it work?

Your Breedr account needs to be linked to BCMS or ScotEID (via the Breedr farm settings) to support Movements for your holding. If you haven't yet connected your Breedr account to your regulatory system, follow these steps to get linked

Next, go to the farm settings page on the web app to "opt-in" by:

  1. Ticking the 'Send registrations and movements' option

  2. Clicking 'Save changes'

Clicking 'Save changes'

Now you're good to manage your movements via Breedr!

tip: Don't forget to switch your movements on first and then scan the animal passports or log births, this way all your movement activity will be captured and ready to approve on the web app regulatory page.

So, how do I register a movement?

Registering a movement is a two step process within your Breedr account:

Step 1: Generate movement activity

Movements are first generated by completing certain activities on the mobile app or web portal, such as:

logging a new birth

scanning animal passports on farm

recording a death

move between holdings

Step 2: Approve movement activity

All generated movements are collected within the Regulatory Page on the Breedr web portal and require final approval to send to BCMS for processing (see below).

The guides below will show you how each specific movement is generated within Breedr and can then be approved and sent for processing.

On Farm Movements: scan passport, move between holdings

Off Farm Movements: mark off farm, moving between holdings

Births: create animal/birth, scan passport

Deaths: log death, mark as dead

Within the Regulatory Page, you will then have the final option to abort, reject, change date, or approve a generated movement:

  • Abort: Aborting a movement means that the movement will not be sent. The movement will still be recorded in Breedr but it won't be transmitted to the regulator and it will disappear from the list.

  • Reject: Rejecting a movement means the movement will be reversed in Breedr and it will not be transmitted to the regulator's system.

  • Change date: Move-on and move-off approvals only. Allows you to change the movement date that will be reported for these movements.

  • Approve and send: Approving a movement confirms the movement is correct and transmits it to the regulator's system.
