Create, Edit, and Delete a Location

Learn how to use Breedr's Location feature

Locations let you track exactly where each animal is on your ranch, a specific pasture, pen, barn, or trap. Keeping Locations current means your cattle list always reflects where animals are physically, and your reports show accurate movement and performance data by location.

Locations and Units: Locations belong to a Unit (a named group of Locations, such as "Home Ranch" or "Summer Lease"). Set up your Units before creating Locations, and confirm each Location is assigned to the correct Unit before adding animals to it. The Unit field on a Location is locked once animals are assigned. Where to Find Locations:

Locations are accessible on both the app and browser portal.

  • On the app: Tap "My Cattle" from the bottom navigation bar, then tap the "Locations" tab at the top of the screen.
  • On the browser portal: Go to My Cattle from the left-hand navigation and select the Locations tab.


Holding Pen

When you first create your Breedr account, a Holding Pen is automatically created at your primary ranch address. This is your default location, any animal added to your account without a specific location assigned goes here automatically.

You can add additional Holding Pens for each address in your account, and create as many Locations as your operation needs.


Create a Location

On the app:

  1. Tap "My Cattle" then the "Locations" tab.
  2. Tap the yellow "+ Create" button.
  3. Fill in the location details:

Field

What to enter

Name

A clear, specific name, e.g. "South Pasture," "Weaning Pen 1," "Barn Lot"

Unit

Select the Unit this location belongs to. Set this correctly now, it cannot be changed once animals are in the location.

Address

Physical address if this location is at a different address from your primary ranch

Notes

Any relevant detail about the location (optional)

4. Tap "Save and finish."

 

On the browser portal:

  1. Go to My Cattle > Locations tab.
  2. Click the yellow "+ Create" button.
  3. Fill in the location details (same fields as above).
  4. Click "Create location."


Edit a Location:

On the app:

  1. Tap "My Cattle" then the "Locations" tab.
  2. Tap the location you want to edit.
  3. Tap the three white dots in the top right corner of the screen (next to the Bluetooth icon).
  4. Tap "Edit Location."
  5. Make your changes and tap "Save and finish."

On the browser portal:

  1. Go to My Cattle > Locations tab.
  2. Click on the location you want to edit.
  3. Click the dark blue "Edit location" button above the animal list on the right side of the screen.
  4. Make your changes and click "Save."

 

The Unit field will be greyed out if there are animals in this location. To change which Unit a location belongs to, you first need to move all animals out of it. See Units for the step-by-step process.


Delete a Location

A location must be empty (no animals assigned to it) before it can be deleted.

On the app:

  1. Move all animals out of the location first, see Moving Animals in Your Account.
  2. Tap "My Cattle" then the "Locations" tab.
  3. Tap the location.
  4. Tap the three white dots in the top right corner.
  5. Tap "Delete Location" and confirm.

On the browser portal:

  1. Move all animals out of the location first.
  2. Go to My Cattle > Locations tab and click the location.
  3. Click "Edit location."
  4. Click "Delete" and confirm.

Cannot delete a location with animals in it. If the Delete option is not available, the location still has animals assigned. Filter by that location in My Cattle to find them, then move them to another location before deleting.


Set a Default Location:

Your default location is where animals are automatically assigned when added to Breedr without a specific location selected.

To change your default location:

  1. Go to My Cattle > Locations tab.
  2. Tap or click the location you want to set as the default.
  3. Select "Set as default location."

The Holding Pen is the default location when you first set up your account.
