Import from the American Simmental Association

Import your ASA EPD and registration data into Breedr to attach genetic information directly to each registered animal's record.

Before You Start:

  • Your registered Simmental cattle must already be in Breedr before importing EPD data. The importer matches your ASA file to existing Breedr records using registration numbers.
  • If your animals are not yet in Breedr, add them first. See Add Animals via File Import.
  • Confirm your animals have their ASA registration numbers recorded in Breedr.

Step 1: Download your EPD file from ASA

  1. Log in to your ASA member account at simmental.org.
  2. Navigate to your herd records or EPD data section.
  3. Download your EPD file containing your registered animals' current EPDs and performance data.

Step 2: Import into Breedr

  1. Log in at app.breedr.tech on your browser.
  2. Go to Upload from the left-hand navigation.
  3. Select "Partner Import."
  4. Select "Breed Association EPDs."
  5. Select "American Simmental Association."
  6. Select your downloaded ASA file and click "Upload File."
  7. Map the columns. Confirm the registration number column is mapped so Breedr can match each row to the correct animal.
  8. Click "Finish Upload."
  9. A green screen confirms the import was successful.

Step 3: Verify the Data on an Animal Record

  1. Open any registered animal in My Cattle.
  2. Confirm EPD data appears on the animal's record.
  3. If data is missing, confirm the animal has a matching registration number in both Breedr and the ASA file.

How often to re-import: ASA EPDs are recalculated periodically as new data is added to the national genetic evaluation. Re-import your ASA EPD file after each national EPD release to keep your animals' genetic data current in Breedr.

If your Import has Errors:

Error Likely cause Fix
Animal not found Registration number in the ASA file does not match any animal in Breedr Add the registration number to the animal's record in Breedr, then re-import
Duplicate match Two animals in Breedr share the same registration number Resolve the duplicate before re-importing
Invalid file format File was modified before importing Download a fresh copy from ASA and import without opening it first

Click "Download un-imported animals" to save a CSV of any rows that failed so you can review and correct them.
