Recording Vet & Med Tests
Breedr lets you record diagnostic and health testing results directly against individual animal records. Keeping test results in Breedr alongside your weight, breeding, and treatment history gives you a complete picture of each animal's health status and ensures your records are ready for any regulatory, breed association, or buyer inspection.
This article covers four Vet and Med testing activities:
- Trichomoniasis Test (Trich Test)
- Bull Soundness Exam (BSE)
- Johne's Disease Test
- Temperature

How to Log a Vet & Med Test:
All activities follow the same path.
On the app:
- Find the animal in My Cattle and tap its record.
- Tap "+ Manage" then "Log activity."
- Select "Vet & Med" from the activity categories.
- Select the specific test.
- Enter the result and relevant details.
- Tap "Save."
During a chute session: Log test results via "+ Manage" > "Log activity" > "Vet & Med" after scanning each animal. Trich testing and BSE are commonly performed during processing sessions. See Activities in Chute Mode.
Trichomoniasis Test (Trich Test)
What it is: Trichomoniasis (Trich) is a sexually transmitted protozoan disease caused by Tritrichomonas foetus that leads to early embryonic death, repeat breeding, and late-term abortions in beef cattle. It is spread by infected bulls during natural service and has no treatment, infected bulls are permanently positive. The disease is present in every US state and causes significant economic losses in cow-calf operations relying on natural service.
Create a test reminder: Set an annual Trich test reminder in Breedr for bulls that are retained season to season. See Create an Alert - Mobile.
Bull Soundness Exam (BSE)
What it is: A Bull Soundness Exam is a standardised evaluation performed by a veterinarian that determines whether a bull is physically and reproductively capable of breeding. It is the single most cost-effective pre-season investment in a natural service program -- one infertile or unsound bull in a single-sire pasture can result in zero calves or an extended calving season.
Johne's Disease Test
What it is: Johne's Disease is a chronic, progressive, and fatal gastrointestinal disease in cattle caused by Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis (MAP). It causes gradual weight loss, bottle jaw, and profuse diarrhea in adult cattle, typically appearing between 3 and 6 years of age even when infection occurred as a calf.
