Uploading Carcass Sale Data via CSV Import (with Optional Off Movement)

Upload carcass data through the web app using a CSV file to  log all carcass details against individual animals and, optionally, generate an off movement.

Note: As of August 2025, you can now upload carcass data via CSV import without needing to mark the animal as off-farm first.

This update allows you to record the animal’s off movement either before or after logging the carcass sale, as the system no longer automatically archives the animal(s) upon carcass data upload.

By uploading your carcass sale data via a CSV import, you can:

  • Log all carcass grading information against individual animals

  • View this data in the Carcass History report

  • Automatically generate an off movement, ready for approval and submission to BCMS/ScotEID in your Regulatory dashboard (by including ‘Departure Date’ and ‘Move Off Farm To’ columns in your carcass csv file)

  • You can record an off-movement either before, during or after uploading this carcass sale information
  • If carcass sale data is uploaded with a ‘Kill Date’ but without a ‘Departure Date’, the animals will remain in your ‘My Cattle’ tab and will not be automatically moved to the Archive.

What information do you need in the csv file in order to upload a carcass sale in to Breedr?

  • Animal ID [passport number or EID number]
  • Kill Date
  • Buyer
  • Kill Number
  • Grading (split into two further columns below)
  • Fat Class
  • Conformation
  • Carcass Cold Weight

To automatically generate an off-movement via a csv file you need to add the additional information:

  • Move Off Farm to (must be a contact in your Address Book in Settings)
  • Departure date (must be before or matching the Kill Date)

Click to download and use this Carcass Sale Template to record all required carcass information and, optionally, automatically generate an off movement.

The formulas to split the Grading into Fat Class and Conformation are already in this template. This video teaches you how best to split your grading if you don't want to use the template above and/or require some more understanding of the formula:

The below is the explanation if you prefer this over a video!

Carcass sale

    1. For the grade O+4L in H2, the formula for Fat Class (I2) in this example is: =RIGHT(H2,2) [it is taking the right 2 digits ('4L') from H2]. For the grade O+3 (H3) the Fat Class cell I3 has the formula =RIGHT(H2,1) [it is taking the right 1 digit ('3') from H2].
    2. For the grade O+4L in H2, the formula for Conformation column G is: =LEFT(H2,2) [it is taking the left 2 digits ('O+') from H2].
    3. Click into cell I2 and use the bottom left green box to click and hold down to pull down column I. This copies the formula down the length of your grading data. Do the same with column G.

You may not have the same order in your spreadsheet as above, which is fine but we recommend ordering your grading columns as above (i.e. Conformation > Grading > Fat Class).

The formula then stays the same aside from the column letter (e.g Grading data might be in 'K', so 'K' replaces 'H', the left formula would be a 'J' and the right, an 'L')

Upload your carcass sale csv file onto your Breedr web app account through the csv import:csv upload weights-2

  1. Select Import data > 'Custom import' and then 'Financial'csv upload-3
  2. 'Carcass sale'csv upload (2)-3
  3. Upload your csv file by clicking 'Upload file' > select file > 'Upload'csv upload (3)-2
  4.  Click 'Next', or, if you have uploaded the incorrect file, select 'Change file'csv upload (4)-2
  5. Match the column headers using the dropdown arrows (circled above). To assign a column header, change the white field labeled 'IGNORE' to the appropriate header.

    • Green indicates an exact match with our system’s column headers.

    • Yellow means the system has made an assumed match, or you've manually selected a header.

Important: Please double-check that all column headers are correctly matched before clicking 'Finish upload'. csv upload (5)-2

  6. A green banner will display if you have successfully uploaded your weights against each individual animal.
