Get Started with Chute Mode

Learn how to use Chute Mode to quickly add animals, collect weights, and bulk apply activities

When adding animals into Breedr, you have two options for scanning. If you are recording weights and using a chute, use Quick Weigh. If you are scanning EIDs and adding animals to Breedr for the first time, you can use Quick Scan.

See instructions on compatible Bluetooth devices and how to connect them here or check the table below.

Quick Weigh - Records animals' weight information as they go through the chute.

Quick Scan - Scan multiple animals without using the chute or capturing their weights.

Chute Setup - Set parameters to sort animals into groups or locations based on conditions such as weight, sex, or date on ranch.

Note: Breedr only works with the following Bluetooth-enabled hardware devices, each device varies in it's compatibility with iOS or Android mobiles/tablets.

Note: iOS and Android devices vary in how they connect with the Breedr app: see how

Quick Weigh

Use this feature to capture weights as animals go through the chute and apply individual or bulk activities,

  1. From the homepage, select 'Quick/Manage Chute.'

  2. Select 'Quick Weigh.'

  3. Tap the Bluetooth icon at the top of the screen.

  4. Select the device you wish to connect.

  5. Scan the animal's EID as it enters the chute. If the animal has not been added, a red 'NO MATCH' message will appear. To add the animal for the first time, select 'Add Animal' at the bottom of the screen. If you are adding an EID, you can search the VID and match it to that animal.

  6. Fill in the animal's information and select 'Save and finish.'

  7. Once the animal's weight has stabilized, you can scan the next animal or tap the 'Next' button.

Note: You can tap the refresh button or type in the weight manually.

  8. When you have finished scanning all your animals, tap the blue Pause button and select 'Save and finish.'

Note: 'Finish later' will store the session on only the device the session was recorded on.

Note: When creating the next animal, the information from the previous animal will automatically populate, except for the EID and VID.

Quick Scan

The Quick Scan feature allows you to scan multiple animals' EIDs without using the chute or capturing their weights.

  1. Go to the 'Sessions' screen and select 'Quick Scan.'

  2. Connect Bluetooth and scan an animal's EID. Animals that have already been added will appear, and EIDs not added to Breedr will say 'Tag not recognized.'

  3. To add animals with unrecognized tags, tap on 'Stop/Save' and then tap "Add" to input their details.

  4. Once all animals have been added, you can tap 'Manage' to add activities. Click 'Manage' to add breeding activities, medicines, create a move-off, and more.

Tap 'Resume' to add more animals or 'Save and finish' to end the session.

Chute Setup:

Set parameters to sort animals into groups or locations. You can sort based on an animal's weight, sex, or date on ranch. Once the draft has been set up, you can use Quick Weigh and run animals through the Chute as you would normally.

  1. Select 'Sessions' from the bottom of the screen.

  2. Tap 'Chute Setup.'

  3. Enter a template name, if you would like to save this template and use it again, tap the green 'Save template' button.

  4. If you would like to add activities, you can either Update Animal or use the Animal Value Calculator (this can be used to add EIDs to existing animals).

  5. Tap the yellow + icon to add a sorting parameter. Choose whether you would like to draft to groups or locations, and then choose the conditions for the draft.
Conditions include weight, sex, and days on ranch.

  6. Tap 'Save sort' and once you are happy with your set conditions, tap 'Start.'
