You just made one of the best decisions for your operation. Breedr puts every animal's history, weight, health record, and breeding data in your pocket & connects that data to the reports, supply chains, and genetic programs that help you run a more profitable ranch.
This guide walks you through the four steps to get up and running. Most ranchers are adding their first animals within the hour.
Before you Dive in: Two Things to Download
The Breedr Livestock app: Download it on your phone or tablet before you start. Everything in this guide works on both the app and the browser portal at app.breedr.tech, but the app is where you will spend most of your time at the chute.

- Android: Search "Breedr Livestock" in Google Play
Your team: If anyone else on your operation will use Breedr: a ranch hand, a spouse, a consulting vet, add them to your account now so they are ready when you are. See Add and Manage Users of an Account.
Step 1: Set up your Ranch Structure
Think of this as drawing your ranch map in Breedr. Getting it right first means you will not have to reorganise later.
Locations are your pastures, pens, traps, and fields: the physical places your cattle live. A Holding Pen is created automatically when you sign up. Add the rest of your locations from My Cattle > Locations tab.
Groups are your management categories: spring calves, replacement heifers, bred cows, lot numbers, or whatever labels you use to sort and track cattle. Create the ones you need from My Cattle > Groups tab.
Units (multi-site operations only): If you run cattle across more than one ranch or lease, create Units first. Units group your Locations by site, for example "Home Ranch" or "Summer Lease." Set these up before you create Locations.
The order matters. Set up Units first, then Locations, then Groups, then add your animals. The Unit assigned to a Location cannot be changed once animals are in it.
Step 2: Add Your Cattle
Time to get your herd into Breedr. Choose the method that fits where you are starting from:

What information do I need? At minimum: an ID ( EID, Visual ID, etc.), sex, breed, date of birth, and date arrived on ranch. Everything else: purchase price, group, location, can be added now or filled in later.
Step 3: Run Your First Chute Session
This is where Breedr earns its keep. Connect your EID reader and weigh head, scan your cattle through the chute, and capture weights, activities, treatments, and breeding records in one pass, no paper, no re-entry later.

No equipment yet? You can still log weights manually, record activities one animal at a time, and get real value from Breedr while you get equipment sorted.

Step 4: Explore Your Reports
With animals and session data in Breedr, open app.breedr.tech on your computer and pull your first reports. You will find your herd weights, breeding history, health records, and performance data, all in one place, all tied to individual animals.
The more consistently you record at the chute, the more powerful your reports become. Ranchers who use Breedr through a full production year have data that drives real selection and marketing decisions.
